The Kek Lapis Sarawak (Sarawak Layered Cake) can be found sold everywhere in Sarawak during festivals and celebrations like Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Christmas, etc. In Kuching, they are sold in front of the stores along Main Bazaar Road. The cakes cost RM10.
The cakes were originally brought to Sarawak from Indonesia, but has evolved into a unique product of Sarawak. It even has its own Wikipedia entry
The designs on the Kek Lapis Sarawak can range from simple layered lines to multi-coloured batik patterns. What’s even better is that the different colours are not just due to food colouring, they taste different as well. Some of the flavours available are mint, coffee and pandan.
